An individual who contaminated treats with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two children aged nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.
However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was held in detention before a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.
The defendant played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated objects including baby oil, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his family member alerted the authorities about his suspicions.
She explained the man continued to play the "sweet game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson called the law enforcement again.
She stated the defendant then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
